     Constituted 1 July 1916 in the regular Army as Battery C, 18th Field Artillery.
     Organized 1 June 1917 at Fort Bliss, Texas.
     18th Field Artillery assigned 12 November 1917 to the 3d Division
     Inactivated 15 February 1922 at Camp Pike, Arkansas.
     Activated 31 December 1922 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
     Releived from assignment to the 3d Division 24 March,1923
     Assigned to the 9th Division on 24 March, 1923
     Relieved from the 9th Division on 15 August,1927
     Assigned to the 6th Division on 15 August, 1927
     Relieved from 6th Division on 1 January, 1930
     Assigned to 3rd Division on 1 January, 1930
     Relieved from 3d Division on 23 September 1932
     Assigned to 2nd Calvary Division 23 September, 1932
     Inactivated 1 January, 1935 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma
     Activated 19 November 1938, at Fort Sill Oklahoma
     Relieved from assignment to 2nd Calvary Division on 1 July, 1940
     Reorganized and redesignated 1 March, 1943 as Battery C, 685th FA BN
     Redesignated 9 August, 1943 as Battery C, 18th FA BN
     Inactivated 3 March, 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey
     Activated 1 August, 1946 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma
     Reorganized 1 June, 1958 as Headquarters and Headquarters, 3d BN 18th Arty
     Constituted organic elements 1 June 1958
     On 25 June, 1958 the 553d FA BN, 542d Armored Field Artillery BN , the 544th Airborne  Field Artillery, and the
 18th    Artillery were deactivated.
     25 June, 1958 reorganized to become the 3rd Howitizer Bn 18th Artillery
 

  The 18th went on to serve in Vietnam in 1965 and in Desert Storm (Southwest Asia)
