On June 27th, 2001 while on a trip to visit our daughter and family at Ramstein, AFB. My wife and I made a side trip to Darmstadt. Entering Darmstadt from the South, there is very little change, about quarter of a mile is still trees. The kaserne looks as if we could move back into it today!
Gates are locked. Just to the left of the front gate and at the end of battalion head quarters is a guard area with patrol dogs.
There is little change going into Darmstadt from the kaserne, exception(there is a Wal-Mart)
about two blocks away. Kelly Kaserne is still operational.
